Anyone know what's going on at 1490 AM (KOGN)? The station has been broadcasting a dead carrier with a loud hum for at least a week now. Do they actually have an engineer or someone that monitors the signal, or is the station now entirely automated and on auto pilot 24/7? I checked the FCC site, and the latest license info just shows that the station's license was renewed at the end of September 2013.

Except for large clusters, most stations don't even have an engineer on staff anymore. They just call a contract engineer when something breaks. The owner is affiliated with Alpha and Omega (KTMW 20 and KMRI 1550). It's supposed to be a simulcast of KMRI. You could give them a buzz. They might not even be paying much attention to the 1490 part. The website is exitos1550.com/ The owner of 1490 is Danette Acosta whose Twitter handle is (surprisingly) "DanetteAcosta". The station's main Twitter handle is "LaJefa1490_1550" but that hardly seems to be used. She might appreciate a heads up that she'll get fined for anything that's wrong at the station (like not broadcasting a legal ID and who knows what else has gone wonky while they weren't paying attention.)

Someone must have finally figured out the station wasn't broadcasting anything but a dead carrier--the audio is back on 1490 as of this morning.
