CBS' "Sunday Morning" had a feature on doowop. Since this board really seems to miss the 1950s oldies, I thought they'd like this piece.
Also, of note, 2/3 of Americans are younger than this music, which helps indicate why it can't seem to be a viable commercial radio format.

Now, isn't that the kind of niche format that HD Radio HD-2 channels were made for?

I contend the historical argument that younger people won't listen to "their parents music" died when we got to the 60's. 60's music is used constantly in movies, TV and most tellingly in advertising. There's a brand new commercial for a bank that shows how you can make a deposit by taking a picture of it with your camera phone. The people in it are maybe late 20's-early 30's and the soundtrack is "Do You Believe in Magic" from 1965!
I could go into the whole reasoning why advertisers don't want real oldies if anyone's interested.
