If I'm reading the data correctly, KUER is applying to move from Little Farnsworth to Big Farnsworth. There would be a big change in the height (913 meters to 1244 meters) and a corresponding lowering of power (38kw to 14kw). Sounds like a good idea to me.

Sounds like a mostly smart move- they already have a translator network to cover the outside areas that they or KUSU don't reach - and moving to "Big" Farnsworth will let them share engineering, power and other costs associated with their transmitter. I know the signal will now have more reach to western Nevada as KUER was always touchy out by Wendover.

I'm not so sure it will help. Height increases generally help with terrain issues. There's not much terrain between Farnsworth and Wendover. Then add that the power level goes down and it might be a net decrease in penetration out west. Along the Wasatch Front I think it's a definite plus. Power levels don't matter as much and the height to get over buildings/trees/houses/etc will be a plus.

Since the analog TV shutoff, there isn't much down at that end of the Oquirrhs. KUTV moved to Farnsworth long ago (analog and digital), leaving only KODJ at Pix Peak. The FCC files show a backup for KODJ down there, with the main now at FP. KUER and KBYU are still at Mount Vision. KXRK moved to FP a while ago. That just leaves KBEE and KJMY down there, as non-comms.
Space is being made at Farnsworth Peak for more FM tenants, but any moves will probably be next summer (2011).
Now, if we could get the remaining low-power DTVs up there, we could eliminate some antenna rotors for TV. Still have some Provo and Ogden FMs scattered around the perimeter.

I'm going to need a little clarification on this because I'm a a bit of a dope about these names. I was doing a little checking and I think this is how it shakes out. Big and Little Farnsworth are right next door to each other, basically in the same place. Same with Mount Vision and Pix Peak, which is the one a few miles south. All that correct? While we're on the subject, are there different names for the two sites on Ensign Peak?
