Does anyone disagree with the statement that MTV has officially given up any pretense about being a music channel? Tonight they're running two Star Wars movies.
Yes, I know they really haven't been MTV for a long time, but at least for a while the not-really-music programming they were running had some connection to musicians if not music itself. Now....forget it.
Maybe we can get The Buggles to write "Reality Killed the MTV Star".

Just as I read this, I have access to cable and am seeing this too. Come on, there must be something more entertaining to watch.

The Star Wars movies are fine with me. It's the location that bothers me.
Oh, and there were more Sunday. Blech.

I meant MTV has to have something more entertaining to program. Now are they going to be the "Movie" Television station?

I don't have a clue. I'm not sure they do either. That's the problem. They have a brand and they aren't following it. It's not really that different from radio. When someone has a brand people expect that brand when they tune in. *sigh*

MTV seems to have NO focus. Unfortunately the teenagers still think that everything on MTV is cool. I guess us old folks are just out of touch, or we have a bigger mess on our hands with our youth and the Crap they think is good.

We survive. At least there's some decent music out today. There was a good period in the 90's where it was hard to find anything new that was decent.

You could also make this argument for the sister network with ease. VH1's logo should be "Music LAST!"

Oh yes. But at least they haven't used that slogan for years. They came up with that one of those times when some genius realized that there wasn't any music on the music channels and tried to refocus it. That was happening every 2-4 years or so during the 90's. Then a few non-music shows would creep in, then a few more and a few more until they took over the network. Then they clean house and start over. Lather Rinse Repeat. Wikipedia says "Music First" showed up in '94, but I'm pretty sure it was '95. Either way that was ages ago. I think that even "My Generation" had been canned by that point. Anyone remember that?
