With the 2009 baseball seasons starting, it's time to review where the local teams can be heard.
(Please hum "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" as you read.)
The Salt Lake Bees are again on KJQS (1230 Murray) "ESPN 1230" for all 144 games. It would be interesting to see what happens if 1230 does change affiliation, but that's the official word right now.
No word yet on radio for the Owlz or the Raptors. The Raptors were on KXOL (1660 Brigham City) for several seasons earlier in the decade. Then they moved to the simulcast of KOGN (1490 Ogden) and KNFL (1470 Tremonton) for the last few years, but those are both silent. KLO (1430 Ogden) is big on Weber State sports. I wonder if they might pick up the rights for the summer.

When the final Raptors game of the 2008 season was broadcast on KOGN/KNFL, I recall Eric "The Rock" Knighton saying something like "we may or may not be back next year, who knows". I have to wonder if he had knowledge of KOGN/KNFL's financial difficulties at that time, which apparently caused the stations to go silent. If the information about KOGN/KNFL at the FCC web site is correct, I suppose it's possible that the stations could be back on the air in time for the Raptors season opener on June 23rd . . . but highly unlikely.

I think you read too much into that. If there was no contract, it was very unclear what the radio situation would be. Even if the stations were on solid financial ground that kind of a statement would make sense.
