It looks like Premiere Networks (iHeart) is admitting that the Limbaugh era is over. The clip shows that they've been running for months will be ending and the new "The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show" starts June 21.
I think this was inevitable. There has been a constant stream of non-iHeart stations dropping the repackaged Rush show. In some cases another station in town picked it up, but that strategy seemed ultimately doomed to failure. It seemed like the big question was how long the "long term" Premiere said they were going to continue to air Rush was going to be. The answer appears to be 4 months. The new question is, with the flood of newcomers now competing for that time slot is this too little too late?
For anyone interested in the new Travis and Sexton show I'm sure it will be airing in the current Rush timeslot on KNRS.

I wonder if KVNU will also pick up the Travis-Sexton show once the Limbaugh "best of" program is finished, or if the station has other plans for the 10 AM-1 PM time slot Monday-Friday. Since KVNU rarely updates the show schedule on their website, it's anyone's guess as to what they'll do come June 21st. The John Batchelor Show was replaced with Jim Bohannon's program from 9-11 PM weeknights at least three months ago, and "Somewhere In Time" hasn't aired on KVNU for at least two years now. If anyone from Cache Valley Radio Group happens to read this thread, they might want to consider updating the show schedule on the KVNU website on a regular basis. Just my nickle's worth. 🙂 kvnutalk.com/on-air-schedule/

I can say with a high degree of certainty that a member of CVRG reads this board frequently.

I just heard two promos for the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton show on KVNU, so Rush's replacement will also be on 610/102.1 from 10 AM-1 PM weekdays beginning June 21st. There's still no mention of the upcoming change on the KVNU website.

This is going to be a major event for Premiere and broadcast radio, with the Travis and Sexton show debuting on over 400 stations this Monday. I'm not trying to give them a hard time, but that's Premiere's PR department talking. They have their work cut out for them trying to reverse the mess they made after Rush passed away and hype is part of it. 400 stations might seem like a lot, but Rush had 650. That's a loss of almost 40%. (Statistics can be bent different ways to make different points.) Hannity has over 600 too. I'd love to find out how many of the 400 stations Travis and Sexton are debuting on are owned by iHeart. Certainly a lot of the major markets are. Those stations were going to be lumped together for whatever Premiere did even if it was a computerized voice reading the phone book. That makes the size of the launch at least suspect if not completely irrelevant. I'm also curious about major market like Chicago and Philly where iHeart doesn't have a talk station and nobody else seems interested. Only time and the ratings will show whether this new show is a big deal or not. A year from now we should know.

I do agree that Premiere dropped the ball by waiting until after Rush died to come up with a replacement for his show. They'd known since last October that Limbaugh had Stage 4 lung cancer, and for someone Rush's age, the survival rate is about 5%. Even before Rush died, he was too sick to host his program for more than two days a week, so it's not like the warning signs weren't there. Having said that, I still think 400+ stations signing on for a show hosted by a couple of guys who are relatively unknown is pretty impressive. However, many of the stations that were Limbaugh affiliates can't afford to hire live and local talent to fill Rush's time slot like the major market stations can. As for Premiere's hype, about all I can say is that's what major syndication networks and broadcasters excel at. 🙂 I wish Travis and Sexton the best in their new endeavor. They've certainly got some big shoes to fill by taking over for Rush.

I gave up on Rush a dozen years ago. When I heard him say that "Obama wants to make America better. I hope he fails.", I knew I was listening to a bag of hot air. Of course, we excuse such nonsense by calling them "entertainers". That's like calling the Capitol rioters "tour guides".

Of course, we excuse such nonsense by calling them "entertainers". That's like calling the Capitol rioters "tour guides". I had a similar epiphany with Glen Beck 10+ years ago. He was hyping up some big news out of Phoenix, talking about how it was going to be really bad. But we will talk about it right after hearing a commercial about Apples to Apples. I remember turning off the talk radio and limiting my listening to the lot soon after. Keeping on topic, I was wondering what was going to happen with the time slot. I agree that they should have had some better planning since they knew his medical condition was terminal. Had his passing been sudden and unexpected, I could understand. But this has just been a disaster. I turned in a few times just to see what was happening. I didn't stick around.
