For your main signal HDAM of HD1 on FM, you pay a licensing fee and when that’s done it’s good. Now HD2 & 3’s etc are annually licensed. KUDD-105.1 is operating at lower-than-normal power, due to a transmitter problem. As for KSL-AM, I'll have to set something up for monitoring. I wonder if they let the software license expire on the encoding.

KSL says they changed out the hard drive on the exporter recently. Maybe something to do with that...they are going out to check it.
As far as licensing, I've heard that high tech often requires multiple entities to work together to create and maintain the systems. So, in something like Digital TV and Radio, everyone shares the costs to get it all up and running, but one manufacturer or a consortium handles the licensing and future growth. You, as a consumer, may pay a buck for licensing when you buy a receiver. The stations may pay a bit yearly, as long as they are using the technology, and that pays for keeping the standards upgraded, marketing, etc. (Maybe like HOA fees?) Otherwise, every manufacturer would have their own proprietary system (remember AM Stereo?)

[/quote] Is the main channel just a one-time fee, or is it for just a few years at the start? It's been a while since I had to put one of those on the company credit card. I can see making the main channel be quickly "paid off", since it makes stations less likely to give up on HD too soon. The HD2 and others can be justified as making a bit of money, or offering additional services.

It's fixed. Something glitched at the transmitter, and lost some table entries. They had a signal on several different models of radios, but not all. Guess it depends on the radio you're using.

FWIW, KUDD HD2 is off the air again. I'm assuming it has something to do with the 105.1 transmitter issue Ken mentioned earlier.

KOOL 105.5 hasn't been on the 105.1 HD2 channel for at least a week now, but 105.5 is still identifying as "KUDD 105.1 HD2" at the TOH.

KUDD has a construction permit for a new aux of 600 watts from the tower next door to their main. The main is 22,000 watts. Construction on the main tower?
David, you didn't mention anything about whether you're getting the Mix 105.1 HD1. If you're getting that then there's no problem with reception and the issue is something else.

As of today I'm getting both The Mix 105.1 on the KUDD HD1 channel, and KOOL 105.5 is back on the HD2 channel. I posted a message on the KOOL 105.5 Facebook page this weekend inquiring about the status of 105.1 HD2; and although I didn't get a response, KOOL 105.5 mysteriously reappeared on 105.1 HD2 on Monday. I'll file that one under things that make you go "Hmmm". 😏

There's a beautiful little building under the tower that was built for the Channel 5 analog antenna in 2003. It was built for a former tenant, with air conditioning and UPS...everybody had an idea of what to use it for. After the 2019 failure of the main antenna, with everybody using their individual auxes for so long, it was favoured to become a ABTN (Anything's Better Than Nothing) system. A completely self-contained backup, room, tower, antenna, low-powered transmitters, etc. Maybe that's what they are doing?
