I've been checking around the net about DXing DTV signals and I'm curious if anyone else knows if this is/will be possible? Am I just imagining how cool it would be to receive more than 24 channels than I have now?
What I want to see is what happens on Feb 17th. Going to do a rescan the second the clock hits midnight.

For a DXer, I imagine it will be very exciting. Not so for the Average Joe. You should definitely have at least 2 more in KTMW/20 and KPNZ/24. There's a decent chance of getting KUTF/12 from Logan and/or KCBU/11 from Price. The problem with DXing digital is that with a dumb box unless you're getting a decent signal at the exact moment the tuner scans it, you won't even know there's a signal there. At least with analog you know there's something there even if you can't tell what.
One thing I've never been clear on. Is the analog shutoff at midnight when the 16th turns to the 17th or the 17th to the 18th?

If I have read correctly, it is midnight from the 16th to the 17th.

I was just reading the information packet from the FCC about the Nightlight Act and I think that might not be right. It says:
"Thus, as required by this Act, the Analog Nightlight program will permit eligible full-power television stations, as defined below, to continue their analog broadcasting for a period of 30 days beginning on February 18, 2009, for the limited purpose of providing public safety and digital transition information, as further described below. The 30 day period ends at 11:59:59 pm on March 19, 2009."
So I think it's the 17 -> 18th that everything goes blooey.
Blooey is a technical term.

One of my DTV converters apparently re-scans every time I turn it on. This morning it tells me that I have a new channel, KULX, on channel 10. At the moment they're carrying Qubo cartoons in Spanish. The FCC Website shows that they are transmitting from the Oquirrhs but are licensed to Ogden. And they're using only 240 watts ERP but still cover their city of license.

Awesomeness.
Anyone know if you can DX digital TV? I have one of those tuner cards for my laptop, and would be interested in this.

I can't pick up the new KULX from the Ogden area, but maybe they aren't at full power yet.
On a related note, KTVX-DT has been at below full power for the last week though they're higher than they were. At the moment they're about half the strength of the other Farnsworth stations.
VHF and UHF signals behave exactly the same way regardless of what information they transmit, so yes DX is possible.

No wonder the cable version here in Wyo was out for about 3 days. It was just a frozen digital picture at my parents house.

I guess that's proof that some cable systems still use the off air feed. Yet another reason why people who say we should just do away with the broadcast signal are nuts.
