Quick correction, it was 12:25 PM, not AM.
In thinking about this it's logical that someone would try this even though it's totally nuts IMO. The era of extra early Christmas music as far as I remember started at another time when emotions were running high, namely 9/11. The explanation was that in the aftermath of the attack people were angry and frightened and Christmas music would help ease their minds. The events of this year aren't the same but emotions are again running off the chart. In theory it might help. In practice I'm not so sure. At some point it's too much. One of the things that makes the Christmas season special is that it only happens roughly one month out of the year (if you're not a radio station or big box store.) Christmas music for a 25% of the entire year? Just how many times can you hear Jingle Bells before you want to pour cement in your ears? I've said over and over for years that even Halloween is too early for Christmas, but only a few days into fall?! I have no doubt that other stations will follow suit, though I'd suggest waiting at least a bit.
How this affects WWIZ's ratings is going to be a problem. The Youngstown market only get measured twice a year and the station is more like a rimshot and a Class A to boot. I don't think we'll be able to glean much from them.
