Anybody heard if Jon Carter of Arrow 103.5 was terminated? I hate to see him go after all these years. He's close to retirement but you'd think if he retired, there would have been some notice on Arrow's website.
The station is not answering emails on the subject.
TIA

According to Jon: "I’m thinking about buying a salmon farm in Nova Scotia."

He's not listed on the website any more, either. He's a couple of years too young to retire. When did this happen? Hope he didn't do a Johnny Fever, and say "doo-doo" on the air.

Carter was on-the-air as late as week before last. I tune-in two or three days a week so I am not sure of his last day, but his departure is recent and AFAIK completely unannounced.
I still haven't found out anything, working my contacts, but most of them have been retired for a while and out of the loop.

Carter's Facebook page is mum on the subject as well, even though someone posted a message asking "where's Jumpin' JC?" From what I understand, Bonneville International is a pretty good employer in terms of job security, and they generally don't terminate employees without just cause. I'd think Jon has been in the broadcasting industry long enough to avoid saying anything that would offend anyone, but in light of recent events, the rules have changed significantly. If JC was terminated, he probably had to sign a non-disclosure agreement, and we won't know for a few months what happened to him.

I was told that an email was sent out on Tuesday, the 26th, to the staff. Just said he was no longer with the company, and that they could not comment any further on HR matters.

Carter's replacement was brought on months ago as a new "sidekick". I can't help but think that this has been planned by management for a while.

I've never been a huge fan of Jon Carter, but this is crazy indeed. First mark waldi is gone, not sure if he left or what happened there, He was the best thing the Arrow had going IMO, both as a programmer, as well as the personality he brought to the brand and as on air talent. Then the VO guy gets replaced with Rob Naughton, who is great, and much better than the guy KODJ replaced him with, but KRSP's prev VO guy was just synonymous with the station for me, probably because he did VO there for quite a while. Back to JC, his absence definitely leaves a void at KRSP.

On the morning of 9/11, I had gone for an early morning walk at the Dee Events Center, and I was listening to Jon's morning show on KRSP on my drive home. I'll never forget shaking my head in disbelief at what I was hearing. When I tuned into Jon's show, it was before the second plane had hit the World Trade Center, and Jon wasn't exactly sure what had happened; information was still coming in from the news services. By the time I arrived home and turned on my TV, the second plane had hit the Twin Towers, and it was clear that the U.S. was under attack. It was one of those moments you remember for the rest of your life, and you remember where you were and what you were doing at the time. I wish Jon the best of luck in his future endeavors.

I don't know why anyone goes into broadcasting for a career. No matter how secure you think your job is ...

I have to correct something i refered to. The VO Guy i mentioned they'd gotten rid of is still being used for some of the immaging. So many industries, from broadcasting to tech and everything in between are seeing reductions and layoffs all over the place.

Are we even sure he was let go? Maybe he was offered a position at a different station and he just needs to wait out the clause to start. I have a feeling he will appear in the future somewhere KODJ would be a good place for Jon Carter Just a thought....

If he is going to another local station, I guess we will know it when "Where are Jon and Mark?" billboards start showing up.
I have wondered whether Jon was unhappy at KRSP. Listening to him on-air, I sometimes got that vibe. Perhaps there was tension over how far in the usual Classic Rock direction to move the play list. There could have been songs or artists that Bonneville had on a DNP list that John and/or Mark wanted.

These days, they rarely play much of the 60s & 70s staples that made Arrow's reputation. Just the mega-hits from that period now. I think you may be on to something re: programming details.
I thought he may have been let go because he's so close to retirement and they wanted to replace him with a younger (lower pay) employee, but I believe Jon Smith has a college degree, I can't imaging Carter making significantly more money than he. Isn't much of the DJ income from selling airtime for ads, anyway? I can't imagine a sponsor preferring an unknown over Carter, for a remote broadcast.

The scuttlebutt in another Utah radio discussion group is that JC was let go on or around June 16th with little fanfare. Regardless of whether he was terminated or left voluntarily, he most likely has a non-disclosure agreement that prohibits him from discussing the matter for at least six months. All references to Jon have been removed from the Arrow 103.5 web site, and his Facebook page still has no info on his "disappearance". I'm not sure if Jon or Bonneville set up his Facebook page, but it still has the Arrow 103.5 logo displayed.
