For a couple of months now (if not longer) I've noticed that the audio on 1230 is distorted at the high frequencies. For example, when anyone pronounces a word with the letter "s" in it, it sounds more like an "sh" sound. I'm not sure where in the electronics chain the problem is. Perhaps someone with some experience with radio electronics could make a guess.
I wouldn't have mentioned it, but I listen to Hugh Hewitt almost every morning on 1230, and the audio splatter becomes annoying after a while.
Edit: I just checked their internet audio feed. No distortion there. So, does that suggest that their problem is in their transmitter?

When my daughter was little, her "s" sounded like "sh". We were in line at a buffet and she wanted us to go sit down. So she loudly said, "sit!" Only it didn't sound like that.

Sibilance.....could be the result over-processing the audio or over-driving the audio input stage.....or worse, it could be RF drift when the broadcast signal is being modulated at the higher audio frequencies.

Does it just have issues at the high frequency end, or does it sound like it's a pre-emphasis issue? Maybe they are feeding the transmitter with the wrong audio. Are they fed by satellite?

If I understand your thinking, yes, it just has issues at the high freq end. If it were pre-emphasis the low end would be minimized and the whole audio would sound tinny, right? That's not the case. And, yes, it sounds to me like almost everything (if not everything) is from satellite (or maybe internet?). FWIW, their news on the hour has the same distortion.
As I mentioned above, their internet feed sounds just fine, no problem.
