It seems I recall someone posting several months ago that Broadcast House (5 Triad Center) was getting refurbished. This morning (at about 8:35) KRSP had some automation problems. Jon Carter apologized, saying that he was working with all-new equipment for the first time today and so he did not instinctively know how to manually fix the problem.

I wouldn't be surprised if Broadcast House has upgraded their equipment as a result of the power failure in August which knocked both KSL AM & FM off the air for several hours. I remember from watching the videos posted on Facebook at the time of the outage that the staff had to work through the studio of Arrow 103.5 to get KSL radio back on the air.

They have been slowly upgrading over the past year or so. Nothing to do with the power outage. The outage was just the perfect storm of things to go wrong with the UPS's and Transfer switch.

I don't remember any posting about Broadcast House getting refurbished. Updating equipment happens at all broadcast facilities periodically. Usually nobody notices. I'm a little surprised that a personality would admit on air that they had a problem, even if it was completely understandable. The conventional wisdom is to not even mention it and just go on like nothing happened. The more attention you bring to it the more the listener will remember it. That said, it takes guts to do a mea culpa to your audience so hats off to him for that.
As for the power outage having anything to do with the swapping of one piece of equipment for a presumably newer better one...seriously? No. If there was a power outage at your house would you start changing light bulbs? Remember that when the power problem happened some of the systems in the building were working and some weren't. It seems pretty clear that they already had a robust master control where they can route anything from anywhere to wherever it needs to go. Especially with today's audio over IP systems that's very easy. I don't know if the Bonneville stations are all AoIP but I would be surprised if they weren't given the sophistication of their operation.

OK, I get the point about KSL's power outage. In fairness, power bumps and outages often damage voltage sensitive solid state electronics. And yes, I've had to change light bulbs at my home after a power outage. Rocky Mountain Power had to de-energize the circuit that supplies power to my neighborhood for about 30 minutes a couple of nights ago to replace some equipment, and a couple of bulbs were burned out once the lights came back on. 'Nuff said.
