Has anyone heard what the new format will be for 107.9? So far I hear clips of songs with an alarm afterwards advising people to change their preset to 105.1. It would sure be nice to know what is being planned for this station.

It may be a placeholder, but 1079themountain.com was recently registered. So maybe AAA? at the very least, it doesn't seem like a stretch with the Call letters and the new owners being Community Wireless. Another question is will it be changed to a noncom?

Good questions. I wasn't going to put a lot of stock in an anonymous registration, since that could be anyone and Community Wireless is not exactly hiding from anyone. But then I noticed that the registration of that domain was made more than a week before the new callsign was generally known (as far as I can tell.) Is that the real domain or just a speculative guess? I don't know.

A couple of interesting notes: Park City Wireless filed a request to convert 107.9 to non-commercial status, which was apparently granted on Friday. That would mean that the loop they've been running since has been illegal since it includes a "call to action", namely to tune to 105.1. Currently they're running Dead Air Theater (at least on the Bountiful booster), but that happened at least once before and the loop came back. The computer running the loop needs a reboot?

I would have to agree. All I've been hearing lately is the loop coming off the main. It is not surprising that they file to change to non commercial. My guess was going to be that they're going to just simulcast kpcw. This will give them better coverage than kpcw has ever had. I'm just wondering if they're going to do it in stereo? Kpcw has always been in mono. I heard from their engineer that this was at the request of most of their listeners in the Park City area because broadcasting in mono reduces the multi-path and seems to make the signal clearer.

Wow, that seems odd in today's high tech world. All of the cheap Chinese made portable AM/FM/SW radios I own have a stereo/mono switch for FM, as do most portable radios and boom boxes made in the past 20 years or so. Of course, KPCW is probably more of a listener focused station since it's noncommercial. I wonder if KPCW broadcasting in mono is the reason KUER-FM no longer broadcasts with a stereo pilot?

They've become an emasculated shadow of what they were in the 1970's and 1980's before deregulation took over. If Uncle Charlie can't even be bothered to shut down KXOL for broadcasting for eight months without a license, I don't think failure to broadcast a legal ID is going to get them too hot and bothered.

Thanks! I guess I did not listen long enough. On the day the loop started, my focus was on determining how long the loop is. Which I gave up on because I was too bored.
Does the station ID come once per loop? Or does it cut in at a certain time of the hour?

Yes, there is an ID there, but you do have to listen for it. Unfortunately for the Trust it's only KUMT (107.9) and not IDing KUDE 103.9 at all that I've heard. (Maybe that's slipped in somewhere I haven't noticed.)
David, I believe KUER in mono is a mistake. Sometimes the stereo switch in gear is too easily accessible and is bumped by accident. I've been told that's the case before. I don't know if that's what's happening with KUER but it wouldn't surprise me. Since most of their programming is talk anyway it's probably not a huge priority. Probably ticks off the jazz fans when the music is actually stereo though.

Unfortunately, KUER hasn't had jazz on for about 10 months now. Ever since Steve Williams retired.

Unfortunately, KUER hasn't had jazz on for about 10 months now. Ever since Steve Williams retired. That's what I thought, but the summary they feed to Google still mentions jazz, so then I thought I was mistaken. (Google "KUER" and you'll see what I mean.) Guess I was right the first time. Thank you.

For anyone who cares, the loop on 107.9/103.9 changed I think late last week sometime. The liners about moving are the same but the song material is.....different. They also are dual-IDing both KUMT and KUDE now.

Hello folks. I tuned in to 107.9 this morning at 9;00 AM. However, the station was running dead air. I suspect they are getting read for the new format. There is still dead air at this time I am writing this post at 4:26 PM on Saturday April 23,.
