Did KSL-AM not get an award?😋 (They used to always get nominated, and often won.)

I'm wondering how they will feed them. What is the rule on boosters? Do they have to relay the primary feed from OTA, or can they be fed by internet or something?

Rode through Wheeler Farm yesterday, and noticed that they no longer just say "Curfew Hours", but they now say "No trespassing after dusk". Huge red signs everywhere. So much for ever being able to listen to distant stations, or look at stars, or watch for meteors. No wonder that America's favorite pastime is sitting home watching YouTube.

I'm thinking of stations moving translators in Utah, to just across the line to Idaho or Nevada, then running alcohol or gambling spots that will be legal there, but are regularly heard in Utah. Utah station, on a Wyoming translator, selling illegal fireworks. That kind of stuff comes to mind.

I hate that, every time I look for real estate in Grayland, Washington (a Mecca for DXers), I get bombarded by ads from St. George, Utah realtors.🙄

Maybe a better question would be, "How can it be abused?" Sometimes, I wish the FCC had to contemplate those issues when changing the law.

You can also be a non-participating station, but you have to sign off under certain conditions of alerts (mostly national, I think). Sadly, EAS hasn't kept up with the times and technology. Too many non-broadcast distractions, too few people watching or listening to local broadcasts. It was great when everyone was watching cable or on an antenna. But, that all changed when DBS satellite came about. I have to wonder how many stations actually can pass an alert, and if they ever test. They are supposed to, but I haven't heard much on enforcement since the COVID restrictions kept the FCC people at home.

I see that DirecTV is now offering to sell service with no local channels, to "save their customers money". I haven't had access to Pay Satellite in years, so I'm wondering.... Do the sat companies carry any EAS messages or tests (beyond the mandatory national alerts) on any channels beyond the locals? If a customer discontinues all of their locals, and depends on streaming, will they essentially be out of the loop for local emergencies? And, how many local TV and radio broadcasters even participate in EAS any more? I rarely hear any tests except on KSL Radio and a couple of other locals, any more.

I thought I remembered something about a vertical antenna. I wonder if the ground connection is still intact. Maybe there is enough energy from the adjacent 1010 antenna, that it's reradiating the second-harmonic that should normally be filtered out within the transmitter. Or, maybe there's a mismatch somehow. I'm monitoring for signs of the intermittent RF mixing that occurs in that end of the valley, which usually only happens in acclimate weather, but only seeing the 2020 now. But, the hum is intermittent, and the strength changes intermittently.

It was gone last night, and earlier this morning, but is back faintly now. I'm hearing it on an ICOM R8600 with a spectrum display, fed by a Wellbrook loop antenna. I wonder if it's only showing up on their daytime power, but not when they go to the night or Critical Hours (low) power. If KMRI is operating just for a few hours occasionally (to keep the license alive), they may be duplexed on to the KIHU-1010 tower, or maybe a long-wire antenna attached to it. Does it say in their latest filing? I can hear KIHU audio under the noise.
