K244DH "caused" problems (that means perceived as "interfering" but many, many miles outside the protected contours) with KQMB, Levan and KKEX, Preston with as little as THREE WATTS TPO! Draw your own conclusions....

I'm wondering if they can really put up an array there.....First, it's prime residential development area and B) folks don't like you in their dental fillings and toasters - case in point KLO's old site! ;D Lastly, it's really not a good location from a AM engineering standpoint. I wonder if these folks are looking to sell the CP to the first uniformed individual who thinks he's stumbled on a gold mine in a market that's even more saturated than the SL metro!

Hasn't this been a CP that has been out there for several years now? Something like a 32kW signal with a four-tower array situated right on the Cache County landfill (right inside KLGN's near field!). Oh wait, I see: it's moved east and is now 5 kw with three 200-foot towers on the edge of a ritzy neighborhood east of Providence right on the foothills (approximately 1200 East on the Cache County grid)! I wonder if RAMS II - whoever they are - is intending to build or playing the speculation game?

Hello? Did someone ping me? Actually, it's part of a translator move using the 'hop method' (or as I like to call it "lather, rinse, repeat" ;D ) which has been explained to me as: sign it on for a few hours, move it 25 miles, sign it back on for a few more hours, move it 25 more miles, and so forth. This is something CVRG is working on and as it happens, UPR is the only facility that they can obtain a reliable input signal from as they move it up and over the Bear River range (the mountains on the east side of Cache Valley). Gary and 'Nigel' might have more details should they wish to share. (I was about to make up a story about seeing a Citroen with a folded dipole on the roof and a bearded fellow with sunglasses behind the wheel travelling down Logan Canyon but then realized that might be closer to the truth!)

When it comes to 91.5, South Salt Lake is too far east to hear the signal from Clarkston. We have had reports of all three HD's out west by Tooele as well as the FM signal. 89.5 transmits from on the USU campus and at only 820 watts ERP, is too faint to be heard in SLC.

ditto Pete......!! Gibson Avenue needs to return to the air and not as a satellite relay! Where do I sign up?

There have been a few attempts to get HD up and running at 'the ranch' (cv radio group) but the only one I know that was on was KLZX's HD-2. I'm not sure where things stand with their HD rollout. I'll keep an ear to the grindstone (I love mixed metaphors) and see what I hear.

...and we're just happy that it could be heard there. With the new antenna on the 91.5 tower out west of Clarkston, I'm interested to see if our reach outside our protected contour has improved. It's icing on the cake. And I agree, let's leave IBOC at 20db down, it's just better that way.
PS.: I'll tell the Fusion student station manager....he'll like hearing this reception report, too.

I have passed your note along to the others and the staff says collectively "wow" and "thanks for letting us know!"
Amazing what 8.2 watts (11 watts ERP) of HD will do...!

From what limited view I have, nationwide, universities and colleges feel their secondary and tertiary digital channels are "too valuable" to allow students to utilize. I don't know if that feeling is shared by the administrations at the U or the Y, I hope it's not. I think that with the ability for student groups to do internet broadcasts (not even going into the discussion about music licensing fees here) some may see a semi-valid point in keeping the kids off the air yet with so many college-level stations not even encoding on their HD-2 and -3 streams when there could be an avenue for students to learn and gain experience (news, underwriting, promotion, programming, etc.) without taking away from the primary signal, it strikes me as odd. We've done it here at USU and our students work hard at sounding good, bringing credit to the university and to UPR. I'm amazed other institutions haven't seen the light?!

KVNU runs the morning news, noon news and PHROTS. Can they be heard in Salt Lake or is there too much 2nd-adjacent chatter from 630 to make it listenable?

...and yes, I know, Cache Valley is a bit outside of the SLC market but I have to mention KUSU/KUSR is running all three HD's - HD2 is counter-programmed to the main channel and HD3 is Fusion, the student-operated facility. ;D In fact, just last week Fusion HD3 interviewed USU president Albrecht for over half an hour concerning the state of the university, the mandatory furlough, and other concerns in a well-done and well-received program. Kudos to the students at Fusion.

Hmmmm.....I haven't heard of anything yet. I'll scope it out and see what I can dig up.

The only thing that made me think of it being KDYL was that this station commences playing oldies but I couldn't pick out any calls due to the weakness of the signal (well, co-channel chatter). I agree....all bets are off in the winter even when the sun it above the horizon!
