Start with a fairly distant fuzzy FM signal, in let's say, southern Idaho. Play way-overmodulated old Mexican music with announcers using some obscure European language, say Catalan.
I'd listen for hours trying to figure it out. Did someone mention the word "fool"?

FWIW: 95.5 is non-commercial and when it was last sold the contract required it never be be resold as commercial.

While 700 and 960 are carrying an ESPN basketball game, 92.1 and 96.3HD3 and 105.1HD2 are carrying the U of U vs Arizona State baseball game.
Meanwhile 96.3HD2 which had been carrying “Bob FM” (100.7 and 105.5) is now silent (on with no audio).
Sounds like someone at Broadway is having fun swapping signals around.
I’m missing my oldies on “Kool FM” (105.1HD2).

They’re calling it “Kix radio, KIXR”
Joe Pags at 4 PM
“Brian Kilmeade 7 till 10 AM”.
It doesn’t sound like they’re just duplicating KJJC’s programming. Maybe some Salem stuff and plus some other stuff.
Is KIXR simulcast on an FM translator?

Class A stations are the strongest AM stations, followed by B, C and D.
Class C stations are the strongest FM stations, followed by B and A. A C1 station is slightly less powerful than than a class C station. There are no class C FM stations allowed in several states from Illinois through New York and beyond.
For what it’s worth, KUFR 91.7 is a class A FM station in Salt Lake.
I believe the Humpy stations are all class C.

I’m hearing 1400 from Provo for the first time in a long time. Their signal strength seems about the same as the station on 1450, strong enough to hear every word but with typical background static of a distant station. I heard Fox News at the top of the hour followed by Charlie Kirk.

This is not a new announcement. They’ve been running this very same announcement at the top of the hour for maybe a few years now. I don’t know why they’re looping it now.
I’ve often wondered how they stay on the air. Maybe this is their death knell.

Or maybe I’m confused. 820 was broadcasting a digital (HD) channel, maybe not a stereo broadcast.
I do remember some local station besides KSL broadcasting in stereo. Maybe it was 700 in Davis County.

KUTR 820 was stereo for a few years when KSL (Bonneville) owned them, if I’m not mistaken.

I have listened for distant stations for decades, not very actively, just occasionally. I used to check shortwave stations too, but lost interest because of the increase in noise.
Decades ago I was fascinated hearing WBZ, KORL, XEX, CBC stations, etc. Now I’m lucky to hear anything east of Denver.
Internet streaming stations are kind of interesting now.

I can’t hear KIXR, but I have heard ESPN 700 on 1400 while waiting in my car near the SL airport. The ID was KALL on 1400, so I’m guessing it’s a second harmonic.

I can hear KADQ here also if I move my antenna around the room searching. Wow, that’s 3 different weak stations on 98.3 that I can hear.

On 87.9 I’m hearing something new. It’s a weak signal, but during a drive to the post office here in the Murray/Cottonwood/Holladay area the signal was continuous but only clear in a few spots. They’re playing popular music, similar to KBZN, KBEE. The odd thing is that they’re playing commercials, mostly for Websites not local companies. I did hear an ad for Sam’s Club with an address “samsclub/Utah”. There’s no announcer other than the recorded ads. No top of hour ID. Odd.
In other news, 95.7 is still loud and clear, and unlicensed, playing Spanish language music, usually religious music. How long has it been? A year or two?

FWIW, 99.9 KUAA in SLC plays jazz (music- not tall guys with a bouncy ball) from 10pm till 5am.
