www.sltrib.com/ci_12115972?source=most_viewedWow what an article. But can you really trust anyone that runs radio anymore? I know that he filed bankruptcy on his radio stations but is there any truth to other groups looking into buying Utah's cluster. I'm glad that KUUU is such a great success but 107.9 I feel that someone like Simmons could take that station further OR Capital buy that frequency and put back a Smooth Jazz station Yea Right!! Marathon Media. Now I know where that name came from.
Trib headline: Salt Lake marathon owner accused of fraud, 'downright immoral' business practices. Speaking of immoral, Chris Devine brought rap music to Utah radio. This music celebrates crime and espouses violence, degrading sex, and substance abuse. 'Downright immoral' indeed.
Here are 4 comments from the Tribune:
1. While I was working at KBER with Chris he would always joke about going out to see crazy Bob to get more money. He would come back and tell us how weird he was but he always got money. Funny thing is our checks still bounced. To Bob Allen's family I hope to God you win. Chris Devine thought Bob Allen was a joke. A rich joke. A guy who had two headed turtles. Chris deserves to rot in jail for what he has done to people. Hopefully that is next.
2. I remember that, during the time that Chris had KBER, a local publication that showed lawsuit notices was FILLED with lawsuits against KBER! Now I know why!
3. Twenty years ago when I was working in radio there was an old saying. "When you do business with Chris Devine someone is going to get (screwed) and it won't be Chris Devine."
4. OMIGOSH! I still have "stock" from one of Devine's radio stations. Helped him build it in sales so it could be sold. Was told I'd receive $$$, even went to the "closing" and given "stock" for the promised $$$. I have it framed somewhere...Ha! I'm older now, and a lot wiser! Trust me...Devine is not "divine"!

I don't know if I follow the connection between decadence at 92.5 and Chris Devine's more-than-shady business practices. Honestly, I think U92 is one of the most creative stations on the dial - albeit, I don't care for the music. But a lot of it is cleaned up and easier on the ears than what's actually on the downloadable MP3s.
If Millcreek hadn't done rap, Clear Channel would have. And you can bet the CC station would've been a whole lot worse. At least U92 makes a really commendable effort to reach out to the community (I don't think "My Bling 105.7" would've done the same).
The Millcreek stations are probably the most ethical on the dial (as far as how well they they serve their listeners). That said, this could be due to a separation between Devine and Millcreek a few years back? (Rog, or someone at Millcreek, could correct me).

To his credit, the people of Mill Creek Media/Broadcasting/3Points Utah, "whatever the company is named this week ;-)" always seem to be enjoying their jobs, even if working just as hard as others in town for less $ (from what I hear). On another note, here is an interesting transaction Mr. Devine just lost a bundle on. A deja-vu filing by Chris Devine’s College Creek Media for the $25,000 sale of an FM construction permit at 92.1 licensed to St. Maries, Idaho. Yesterday’s filing pretty much duplicates the one T-R-I told you about in the November 7 issue – it’s a deal between College Creek and buyer Spokane Public Radio. What may be different is the FCC’s new policy giving “eligible entities” an additional 18 months to build out the CP. And Spokane Public Radio qualifies all sorts of ways, as a non-com and as a small business. The haircut for seller College Creek Media remains, though. It paid $389,000 in FCC auction #37 and is selling the permit for $25,000. I just hope that he did pay all the $ to "Park City Wireless" they deserved. That is perhaps one of the stronger points of Blair Feulner's mixed legacy for K-P-C-W.
