According to TVWeek and the NY Times, NBC and some private equity partners are going to buy The Weather Channel for $3.5b. That spells trouble for NBC's Weather Plus, seen locally on KSL DT3.

What does this mean for the Weather Channel. Will they only be exclusive on NBC stations or will they still be on a single channel. I've noticed that I haven't watched the Weather channel in months. That's probably because it hasn't rained here in months.

Not true! I felt two drops just 3 weeks ago! The article was saying that the big prize was the website, which makes sense. NBC/Universal has a lot of cable properties already, so I don't think there's an big deal in having another network. I'd imagine that the weather segments on MSNBC and during NBC News programming would acquire Weather Channel branding. I also figure that WeatherPlus will probably be rebranded as well in a way similar to Weatherscope that Comcast runs.
