It's looking very likely that the transition date to move all full power TV stations to digital is going to move. There will be an official vote next week.
I agree that not everyone is ready. Moving the date isn't the answer. Moving the date is an incredibly stupid move for a lot of reasons. For one thing, people that have no pressing reason to bother getting ready are just going to put it off until they have to regardless of the date that is. It's human nature. For another, people who haven't switched are going to get a false sense of security when nothing happens in February. They'll figure they aren't affected for some reason and then won't get prepared. This leads to point three which is that there will be considerable expense in trying to reeducate everyone on what the new date will be. Stations just don't have ad inventory to throw around on a whim when we're already in a recession and ad rates are falling. That's not to mention the added expense of keeping analog transmitters on air that you hadn't budgeted for.
There is one saving grace in all this. This change is apparently going to include language that says that stations can switch early at the discretion with no penalty. I hope most stations just go forward as planned on Feb 18. There will be some discomfort but it will pass quickly. Delaying the changeover just delays when the discomfort will be.

I'd like to see some new stations on my rescan on February 17-18ish. Luckily, I was one of the educated consumers and jumped on this a little over a year ago. I love my converter box and gave my other one to my roommates. Now I have two coupons (full btw) I have nothing to do with. Anyone need a converter box on this forum?

The delay bill passed the Senate unanimously tonight. The House could vote on it tomorrow and it could be on Obama's desk by the end of the week.
*sigh*
This is what happens when people who know nothing about a problem try to solve it.
On the bright side, I've heard there are some provisions for reissuing vouchers for expired but never redeemed ones. I'll have to confirm that.

The house rejected the delay. Yay!

The house rejected the delay. Yay! Yes, but as usual the devil is in the details. The vote today in the House was 258 to 168 in favor. Since this was a special vote to suspend the normal voting rules and pass the bill, it required a 2/3 majority. it only got 60%. The bill will come up again next week and only requires a simple majority, which it is almost certain to have. I don't see that many Reps changing their mind in a week. It looks inevitable.

www.kidk.com/news/local/38736392.htmlSo KFXP was going to "flash cut" to make the digital transition. Why do you think they would have gone earlier? KIDK also has some of the best ads I've seen on TV, frankly explaining what is happening and stating flat out that certain viewers of KIDK will lose their channel as a result of the government mandated transition. They also highlight other areas that will probably need a better/new/roof top antenna as a result of the change. I know in Logan they "flash cutted" the translators in that area early, any other thoughts about the process?

The Cache County translators were flash cut on August 30th. Until we gave ourselves a new HD flat screen TV for Christmas, there was blissful silence in my home.....which has now been replaced with "Battle for the Biggest Losing Funniest Network Dancing American Idol Stars" ;D

Maybe you could sabotage the antenna so it doesn't pick up anything.

In case you missed it, the delay is all but official now. It's just awaiting Obama's signature, and there's no chance he'll veto.
The Elected Cockroaches (tm Jerry Doyle) have struck again.

What about 16, 20 and 24? There are also a handful of lower power ethnic stations too. Any word on when those will go?
edit: According to Fox 13 last night, all Utah stations (besides those you mentioned above) will still go off on the 17th. I don't know how true that is but in 12 days, we'll see.
