I heard the top of hour ID at 6 this morning and the call letters are back so I think that issue has been corrected.

Mostly, at least when I heard it. Unfortunately there is no such thing as "KZNS AM", or anything "AM" for that matter. I'll put that down as a win anyway.

They have always said "KZNS AM" for the last several years anyway. So, that leads to a hypothetical question. If an FM station had a set of call letters that were later also adopted by an AM station. Would the FM station have to change their call letters to include the FM and the AM would just take the call letters without the requirement of mentioning the band in their legal ID?

AM's must always have the root (no suffix) callsign. FM and TV can use the root callsign if it's available or the one with the suffix. So in your example (assuming both the AM & FM would have the same root callsign) then yes the FM would have to change to -FM and the AM would get the root sign.

Call signs, huh? Guess it is good to know Bonneville's lawyers, and their email addresses.😀 (I was Chief Operator for KSL-TV for many years. Old habits die hard.)
