Well, The Beat has me puzzled. Every time I tune in, I hear the same tired "new" music that U92 was already playing. They ID as "#1 for Throwbacks," but I haven't heard any all weekend. I wondered if the web stream was still running some old U92 programming, but it IDs as "The Beat."
Are they dayparting still? Throwbacks during the day and the U92 playlist at night? Because that seems like a bad plan, imo.

Looks like it's dayparted. I realized I mostly listen in the evenings -- when the music is more like U92. But during the day it's heavy in throwbacks.
Does dayparting work, though? Most stations don't do that -- certainly not anymore.

Does anyone else do Rhythmic? If you're the only game in town, you can do pretty much whatever you want. There's also the matter of having (potentially) two audiences and trying to serve them both. NPR stations that also program music have had that problem for decades.

Nobody else does rhythmic in the Salt Lake market. I do think this station is similar to Jammin' 107.5 in Portland — similar target audience, emphasis on very heavy throwback rotation.
But... Jammin' does not daypart. And I just don't see what 92.5 gets from doing that. Would it not be better to find the true POWER new hits and play 2-3 an hour, rather than rambling around new music during 6p-6a?

I will say it's a little frustrating. I'm not a fan of any modern R&B/Rhythmic/Rap music, but I grew up in the 80's 90's and LOVE some of that old skool stuff. When I heard 92.5 was changing to throwbacks, I started listening a bit and just heard the same new stuff (I can only assume since I've only heard it on some tiktoks) Maybe a couple older songs. I can really only listen in the evenings, though, so if what's being said here is true, I'm missing the new format based on their scheduling...

Timmy, you should try "Magic 101.3" from Louisville, KY. Bonus is that when you're listening, they're moving to overnights when they have very little commercial inventory.

Old School 104.7 is heavier in R&B than classic hip hop, but it was a MUST when I was living in SoCal south of the Grapevine. Moved up to the central valley this month, and I'm finding Bakersfield's "Groove 99.3" is also great.
