This morning I heard an ABC4 news update that sounded like it had been recorded the Friday before Memorial Day and he said you were listening to one o five five KOOL FM. They've been running weather from ABC4 that was recorded the Friday before Memorial Day too. I don't know if this is significant or not but running news and weather that's over a week old seems like … maybe KOOL really is KOOLing off. I sure hope not.

I’ve heard it too, that same old news and old Memorial Day weather, a week later. Bizarro World.
I love the music, but I thought I was the only one listening. How long can they afford to run a digital sub channel with no listeners?
Could they buy or LMA 98.3? It’s obviously been abandoned by KKLV and has never added anything to their coverage area anyway.

You want bizzaro from Broadway Media? Hold my beer. 🙂 I was listening to Bob FM 100.7 Sunday afternoon, and I heard one of the Bob FM liners list KYMV's frequencies as 100.7, 105.5, and "also at 105.1 HD2". Thinking my ears were playing tricks on me and I'd misheard the listing of frequencies, I continued to listen to 100.7 for the rest of the afternoon, and I heard the same liner list the same frequencies for Bob FM again later that afternoon. What the heck??
Either an incorrectly edited Bob FM liner slipped through the cracks and is still being aired, or there's a change in the works at Broadway Media. 92.5 FM HD2 is still a simulcast of Bob FM, and 105.1 HD2 is still KOOL FM.
IMO, even if Broadway were to move the KOOL FM format to another frequency tomorrow, they'd have a hard time rebuilding the audience they built while the station was still on 105.5.

I noticed the same problem with automation several months back when there was a weather update that was exactly a week old. I think the system keeps the old recording until it is replaced with a new one and it seems the common factor is a long holiday weekend.

I can't speak for which automation system Broadway uses. But with the WideOrbit/Scotts system, you're supposed to set an end date in the metadata of the file before you upload it to the server.
Sounds like somebody didn't. And it's playing the same cut over and over.

WRT running old news/weather and having the liners for Bob be wrong (unless plans have or are changing), the common denominator seems to be just making mistakes. Depending on whether the liners are produced in house or by an outside company, that could be trickier to fix, but the automation issue can and absolutely should be taken care of immediately.
The question about how long this can go on I think is a little trickier than it might seem. Given the ratings that Kool was getting when it was on 105.5, plus the fact that the sports stations streams and other music stations HD2's are showing in the most recent ratings, I have a hard time believing that nobody's listening anymore. Am I correct in believing that they still have DJ's all day? My gut tells me Broadway has to be playing a long game here and there are puzzle pieces that are missing. No idea what they are, but there has to be something.

Yes, there are still DJs on KOOL from 6 AM to 10 PM. I heard Mark Waldi this morning talking about a Styx/REO Speedwagon concert on July 9 at Usana. Even if they're voice tracked, (which I have to think they are, otherwise, it seems like Mark would notice those old news and weather updates and say something to somebody), as we've discussed before, it seems like a lot of effort to put into a format whose days are numbered. It will definitely be interesting to hear what happens moving forward.

There are a lot of things a live DJ has to do during a show. It's not like they just sit at the console listening to the song/commercial/news/etc waiting for it to finish. It's very possible Mark (or whoever) wasn't even listening to the newscast.
