The tower is down, its wreckage is shoved up against the building. I suppose the building will be next. There is nothing left of the KOET building.

I guess it's safe to assume that KOGN will be off the air for awhile, or perhaps permanently. There's not much undeveloped land left in the Ogden area that I'm aware of; except for the location of the old Fred Meyer on 12TH Street, which has been vacant since the store was demolished at the end of 2016. Although I'm sorry to see another piece of Ogden's history gone, it will give me the opportunity to do some AM DX'ing on 1490, and I'm now able to hear 1500 KSTP in St. Paul almost nightly with KOGN off the air. BTW, did you happen to snap a picture of the tower wreckage shoved up against the KOGN studio building?

I took photos on the 15th and 17th but not this last Thursday. Too depressing, it was obvious they had just cut the guys on the east side and let it collapse. But here's a mystery: mixed in with the tubular tower steel there were sections of a much older, painted angle iron tower; one section with a tree trunk growing through it. It must have been stacked on the ground back behind in the "urban forest" east of the tower pier. Makes me wonder where that was in the "history"...?

Thanks much for the RFH links! Below is a link to the "Let's Go Eat" podcast with Bill Allred and Tom Greenleigh talking about the early days of KJQ, when Tom hired Bill for his first radio job 40 years ago. Tom was an instructor for one of the classes I took when I was in the broadcasting program at Weber State, and I throughly enjoyed being in his class. If the walls of that studio building on Gibson Avenue could talk, I'm sure they'd have some very interesting tales to tell!🙂 www.spreaker.com/user/broadwaymedia/tom-greenleigh

Here's the edited version of the Radio From Hell show for January 31st. This clip is just the discussion about the old KJQ building and Kerry, Bill and Gina's stories about working there. I'd sure like to know the story behind how the couch that should be burned ended up on the roof of the building! 😄 www.spreaker.com/user/broadwaymedia/gina-visits-old-kjq-building-01312022

I drove past 1506 Gibson earlier this afternoon, and the studio building and the sign out front are still intact. The recliner/sofa are still on the roof of the building, as is the satellite dish. It appears that most of the remains of the KOGN tower are still pushed up against the side of the building, so apparently it doesn't have much scrap value or it would have been pilfered by now. I saw a workman wearing an orange reflective vest going in and out of the studio building, so maybe the new owner has plans to renovate the building and use it for an office for the storage units or whatever is going to be built there. At the very least, I'd imagine the building would have to be retrofitted to meet the present seismic codes for Utah if they plan on keeping it.

I was wondering about the state of the real estate over the weekend.....thanks David for the drive-by. Happy to oblige, Friend. I guess I'm a bit weird, because I think it would be nice if at least a portion of the history of KVOG/KJQN/KOGN could be preserved by sparing the studio building.

Is Craig Wirth still around? He could make an interesting piece about the couch, maybe.

Is Craig Wirth still around? He could make an interesting piece about the couch, maybe. Craig is still listed on the both the University of Utah faculty site as well as the KTVX ABC4 site. Looks like his last "Wirth Watching" segment was about the lights on Temple Square from two months ago.

Bill Allred reported today that the building is gone. Darn, I was hoping to find out how the couch got put on the roof! 🙂 My guess is that one of the workers who are clearing the property thought it would be a funny stunt to drop it on the roof, and they put it up there with the heavy equipment they're using.
