What's really interesting is that Broadway now has a "KOOL FM" and a "BOB FM", just like Impact Radio Group's stations in Boise. Their stations also have people that track for Broadway's stations.

Thank you, David. It was me who asked about the streaming and I'm listening now. I didn't know his name but I definitely recognize Alan Hague's voice. After Dr. Demento on Sunday nights at midnight on Rock 103 KRSP in the late 80s and early 90s they played this recording where they identified all their translators. They had one in Evanston, Wyoming, Soda Springs, Idaho, and Orangeville, Utah, and probably some I'm forgetting, but it was him doing those IDs. Before KUDD switched from 107.9 to 105.1, 105.1 was stunting as a Christmas station called "1051 the Gift" and Alan was the voice of that station.

Anyone know why the University of Utah women's basketball game is being broadcast on 105.5 tonight? I thought KALL 700 was the official home of U of U sports. Maybe KOOL 105.5 is trying to compete with The Wave to see which station can drive away the most listeners by broadcasting college sports in primetime. 😉
BTW, the audio quality of the broadcast is really bad . . . as in two tin cans and a string bad. The air staff doing the post game interviews aren't too good, either. They sound like a group of first year broadcasting students. The whole package sounds kind of surreal on a station that's supposedly devoted to pop, soul, and rock & roll.

Just guessing but I would say that there was another sporting event like a men's U of U basketball game or something to do with Real Salt Lake on KALL so they're using KOOL as an overflow station. Out of all the stations in the Broadway cluster, that one probably makes the most sense. One could make an argument that Bob could have been used, I suppose, but they do caiter to a somewhat younger demographic than KOOL.

I am getting impatient for Kool to expand their play list a little more. Seems to be little depth. I want Rock and Roll songs that remind me, yeah, that song could ONLY have been from the 70's (or 60's). Songs like After the Gold Rush. Or Saturday Night by the Bay City Rollers. Or Terry Jacks. Or Slade. Or Three Dog Night. Or Blue Oyster Cult. Or Bread. Or Moody Blues (songs OTHER THAN Nights in White Satin).
And for the Pop side of Kool, I want some country crossover. I want some instrumentals. Village People. Osmonds. Jackson Five.

I think Oldiesfunhouse has the right idea of overflow station. That happens all the time nation wide. I like the idea of more variety on Cool FM amanuensis.

Thanks for your replies, oldiesfunhouse and drpepper. Now that I think about it, the Jazz game was on KALL last night about the same time as the U of U women's basketball game was on 105.5. Since both stations are owned by Broadway Media, it makes sense that the U of U game was airing on 105.5 as overflow.

The Jazz were on KALL? Are you sure it wasn't the U Mens BB game?

yeah must have been a U of U men's game. the Jazz aren't going to be on KALL unless ESPN had a national broadcast of the game.

The Jazz were on KALL? Are you sure it wasn't the U Mens BB game? It probably was the U of U men's basketball game, CA. When I flipped over to 700 while the women's game was on 105.5, I heard someone mention the Jazz on KALL, and they did have a game scheduled Wednesday night. I'm not much of a sports fan, so most sports yak stations sound like Charlie Brown's teacher to my ears. 😀

I'm going to teeter dangerously on the brink of going off topic with this next comment. It BLEW ME AWAY that not ONE radio station in our market carried the national broadcast of the Super Bowl this year. I was going to bring this up earlier and never got around to it but since we're talking about games being carried on different stations it came to mind. I believe the Super Bowl was being carried in Spanish on 1600 but 1280, 975, and 700 were all just carrying Fox Sports Radio and ESPN Radio respectively. I think it's Westwood One that does the national broadcast of the Super Bowl and KZNS USED to have that contract but I think they dropped it in favor of becoming the local affiliate of the Las Vegas Raiders radio network. My friend told me that none of the locals carried it last year either. The largest sporting event, arguably, in the world, and not one station in a midsized market carries it! Apparently there are more people like David in our area than I might have thought. Or, probably more accurately, the cost has gone up to be able to have the rights to carry those games and, with SiriusXM and the ability to pay a nominal fee to be able to listen to those streams on the internet, maybe the radio stations figure they should let the listeners spend the money if they want to hear it rather than them spending it. I think I had to listen to the NBA AllStar game on the internet last year too because the Utes had a game on 700. I apologize if I offend the radio purists out here by what I'm about to say but, man, I sure love the internet. If you're willing to shell out a few bucks extra, you can listen to pretty much any sports feed you want. My friend is blind and he's a huge football fan and he signed up for SiriusXM for that very reason, because the locals weren't carrying the games he wanted to listen to. I mention he's blind because, as a blind sports fan, it's harder to listen to games on TV because the announcers there, reasonably so, assume you can see what is going on and so they provide more commentary than play by play, although one could make a pretty good argument that David Locke, the radio voice for the Utah Jazz does a lot of that too, but that's a discussion for a different place and a different time. (Man I sure miss Hot Rod Hundley. You gotta love it baby!)
