For the past couple of weeks or so, I have noticed electronic billboards along the route of my commute from West Jordan to Lehi showing pirate tropes without revealing who was sponsoring the messaging. This is a common marketing ploy for creating curiosity. Over time, more information is revealed.
Today, an electronic billboard showed what I assume is the next step. On Nov 11th, it said that a "treasure map" would be unveiled. And at the bottom of the ad was "107.9". So is BYU Broadcasting going to promote BYU Radio with cash prizes for listening? I have never heard of a noncommercial station doing anything like that. In any event, the campaign is a fun riff on "pirate radio stations".

Hooray! I'm impressed BYUR finally got a bit of marketing. It's a decently good talk station, which nobody hears because BYU always spent all its marketing on BYUtv.
