As of about 7 o'clock this morning, the station signal was cutting in and out on 99.1. Anyone happen to notice any issues on 99.5 HD2? Weather related?

Yes, I noticed 99.1 cutting in and out too. I checked 99.5 HD2 and that signal is steady. And for the first time that I have noticed, the 2 signals are totally in sync. Therefore, I'm assuming that they are now sourcing 99.1 from 99.5 HD2.
Another thought: I was wondering how iHeart could pay for TV ads and still allow their signal to be so poorly monitored. Then it occurred that 99.1 carries KUTV weather (and news?) and maybe there's a trade going on for the TV ads.

Looks like 99.1 has a solid signal now. And they're back to 99.1 leading 99.5 HD2 by about 30 seconds.

From the descriptions it sounds like 99.1 did switch to being fed by 99.5 HD2 but that wasn't working correctly. It's worth keeping in mind that the digital subchannel does extend out from the main 99.5 signal and so does the 99.1 signal. Another possibility could be that they inserted a delay box into the 99.1 feed that added the same delay that the HD2 has bringing them independently into sync. If that box malfunctioned under load it could cause the problems you noticed. Without more data it's impossible to tell.
I do have to disagree with the conclusion that iHeart isn't monitoring their station. I'm positive that they do. Knowing there's a problem and doing something about it are two completely different things. Most major stations have backups for the STL, the transmitter, the antenna, maybe more. If there's an issue they can switch to a backup until the problem is fixed. I doubt they've gotten that far with this translator. Based on the other information my hypothesis would be that they were trying something new and it didn't work out.
Also, iHeart has been using KUTV talent on air for quite some time.

So, where is the 99.1 transmitter located? I know that previously it was on Lake Mountain. The Radio Locator Website shows it may be either on Farnsworth at 99.3 with a CP for 99.1 at a location near the U of U (5th S & 13th E).
Where I am (east Murray) the signal seems stronger than when it was on Lake Mountain.

I believe it is on the roof of Friendship Manor, a tall bulding of retirement apartments.

After listening for awhile.....It's one of the better formats on on local radio. Like the idea of a lot of music and very few commercials unlike KLO which seems to be 3 songs and numerous commercials. Iheart folks are really putting time into 99.1 with all local dj's, KUTV's weather updates... just wish it was on a stronger signal for folks without HD radios Great variety of tunes!

Well it isn't the Farnsworth 99.3 facility since it isn't on 99.3 and nobody would be able to hear a puny 10 watts with KJMY's sideband noise one channel over. amanuensis is right. The coordinates point to Friendship Manor. Ironically that may be one of the worst places to have put it. Radio waves travel mostly horizontally and whatever does travel vertically would almost certainly hit shielding required to keep RF exposure within permissible limits. (Before its destruction 1 World Trade Center in NY was notorious for this. You couldn't pick up any TV at all within the building even though the antennas were on the roof, yet you could pick them up from 50 miles away.) A retirement community would seem to be a really good audience for that format. Maybe they are injecting a low level RF signal in the power lines of the building to let the residents hear the station. That would be smart.

That would be www.easy991fm.com but it's currently just forwarding to iHeart's main page.

Looks like the website is up: easy991fm.iheart.com/Also the logo: Interesting they have "Salt Lake City" in the website's title. Wish they'd use KOSY branding with this one! Currently the call letters are with a Iheart CHR in Cedar Rapids.

Branding as KOSY wouldn't make sense IMO. KOSY here was an AC station for its last 15 years. That goes against the branding they're using. The callsign is irrelevant anyway since translators can't have 4 letter callsigns anyway.

It was nearly dead air on 99.1 this morning at about a quarter to 8 on my way to work. About every 15 seconds or so you'd hear just a little blip of music, then it was quiet again. I think they might be sourcing from KJMY-HD2 again because it sounds identical to when I'm losing an HD2 signal. I wasn't around an HD radio so I didn't get a chance to check that.

I wonder if the 99.5 transmitter is running at reduced power due to transmission reflection issues. When ice builds up on an antenna it sometimes reflects power back to the transmitter which makes the transmitter very unhappy. Power has to be reduced to keep it from being damaged. The digital signal is so low to begin with that could cause a problem.

It was working fine yesterday evening so whatever the problem was has been corrected, at least as of about 6 o'clock last night. Also, the station is now being streamed on the iHeart Radio app. And if you've got a smart speaker like an Alexa you can tell it to play Easy 99.1 from iHeart Radio and it will play.
