No.. the Unrivals Sports thing at night is actually pretty good... and Dave and Debbie replacing Doug is old news (and is NOT working... kind of embarasing... not as annoying as Jay Macfarland.. but not working too good... ) no... this was from somebody with contacts in the building... just wondering if anybody had heard anything...

I wouldn't be surprised to see JMac get the boot. I don't think his show is very popular for a variety of reasons, and I believe he's at least partially responsible for KSL's declining ratings. But that's just my own opinion and isn't based on anything I've heard (or read, for that matter).

Ok, Radiorelic, unless your friend who has contacts in the building told you the rumor in confidence which I can totally respect, ... WHAT WAS THE RUMOR? (That was not angry yelling by the way. It was "the curiosity is killing me" yelling, but if you'd rather not share, that's cool. From the very little bit I got to listen, I thought the show was better as the Browsers with Jay and Amy Iverson. Jay's chats with Jeff Caplan at 3:15 and 3:45 are pretty entertaining. I hope the rumors don't effect Jeff. He's my favorite person there. My apologies to the Scott Seger fans in the room who, I think, Jeff essentially replaced. His "My Minute of News" is some of the best radio out there.

Interesting...based on the ratings? That would be a no, but apparently I was wrong. Nevermind.

Doesn't BYU Radio carry all the BYU sports broadcasts? With BYU's acquisition of KUMT, will that effect KSLs ability to broadcast BYU football and basketball? I know ZERO about how broadcasting rights and contracts work, but I guess BYU and Bonneville are under the same bigger umbrella of the LDS church so maybe those things don't matter. I doubt BYU wants to lose that 50,000 watt 1160 signal and I'm sure 102.7 has better coverage than 107.9. Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on how the BYU sports on KSL will be effected by 107.9. Probably not at all but just wondering. I notice KSL now says they're the "Herritage" home of the BYU Cougars. I don't know if that has any significance either. Thoughts?

I have been wondering about this also. It seems to me most likely to be the issue that the OP heard rumors about.
Perhaps weekday games (and pregame shows) will get airtime only on KUMT, when covering them on KSL would mean that they would not be able to do afternoon drive time news. I've wished for a long time that they would do something about that. In the past, I suggested splitting KSL's AM and FM signals, with the game getting AM and the news and traffic reports getting the FM. But splitting KSL and KUMT would work also.
FWIW, I wish that KSL would also split AM and FM for breaking news events such as Senate confirmation hearings -- the AM could carry the entire thing uninterrupted, while the FM could continue normal coverage, while noting that the AM signal has continuing live coverage of the event.

I thought 107.9 was going to carry what used to be on KBYU-FM... and KBYU-fm would be carrying the BYU-Radio content... if not that ... the other way around.. but yes... that BYU-Radio content over the air would conflict or at least compete with the broadcasts on KSL...
I think this already might be handled within the fact that BYU is handling the marketing and ad sales for the BYU broadcasts that last year were on KSL and BYU -Radio... so maybe it's a moot point...
I would guess they have come to an understanding of this...

KBYU-FM is staying put on 89.1. BYU received so much pushback from loyal Classical 89.1 supporters that they bought KUMT to air BYU Radio on 107.9 instead. The flip to BYU Radio on 107.9 is set to occur later this month according to a recent post on KUMT's Facebook page.

One other thing to remember is that 107.9 will be non-commercial. Underwriting announcements can sound a lot like commercials if you're a good copy writer, but they aren't the same thing.
KSL AM & FM are very unlikely to split the simulcast for individual events. That would mean they can't have their ratings combined and that's important for ad buys.
