I can't personally vouch for the fact that KSRR/KQMB have been silent for at least a year, because the only time I could hear KSRR was around local sunset during the "gray line" DX window. However, in this thread started by amanuensis on May 2nd, 2017, he mentions that both stations had "been silent for a long time". Assuming the stations had been off the air for at least a week or two when amanuensis originally started the thread, that would mean that both KSRR and KQMB had been off the air for at least a year before Zeta filed its STA's. talkingutahradio.proboards.com/thread/1580/ksrr-kqmb

I can personally say that both stations were put back on the air prior to the 1 year mark. Beyond that, I can't say much right now other than I'm hopeful I'll be able to share more good news about these two stations in the coming weeks.

Beyond that, I can't say much right now other than I'm hopeful I'll be able to share more good news about these two stations in the coming weeks. Even if KSRR and KQMB were back on the air prior to the one year silent period deadline, written notification sent to the FCC is required from any broadcast station that is silent for more than 30 days. If that was done, it seems odd that no STA silent request for either station is showing in the FCC database. Moreover, the STA application for KSRR has yet to be approved by the FCC. CA, can you please clarify your comment about the reply approving the STA for KQMB? I'm not seeing anything in the FCC reply or the STA application indicating why there's no silent request for either station showing in CDBS. (BTW, the link you provided isn't working.)

The link works, the board software just included the ) as part of the URL in the conversion to a hyperlink. This should work: licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=85056STA's can be requested and approved by email which would not necessarily show up in the CDBS database. For example, I know that in NYC after 9/11 there were a number of emails back and forth between broadcasters and the FCC to set up temporary facilities.

The Commission definitely needed to be notified of that I'd honestly just leave well enough alone. Ever since Bob Morey died, I think the family has just been trying to scramble to keep the stations afloat any way they could. But with NO income for ten years, I suspect any repairs have to be paid out of their own pocket. I do know they have vacated their studio space on Business Park Drive in Orem. I had no idea the transmitter collapsed. Geez Louise! What bad luck.

The transmitter for the FM (KQMB) failed, but it was the AM tower that collapsed . . . and that isn't going to be cheap to replace unless they use something like a Valcom whip to replace the previous antenna. The KRRF (ex-KJQS) tower collapse in 2015 is the main reason that Cumulus wanted to sell the license for 1230, plus the fact that the signal barely covered Salt Lake and Davis Counties. The FCC still hasn't approved the STA for KSRR that was filed April 24th, so it's not a done deal at this point. And it could be that Zeta is looking to sell both KSRR & KQMB and just want to get the stations back on the air until they can be sold.

I would refer you back to the post by fmdj1. I have a high degree of confidence that the information there is accurate.

I would refer you back to the post by fmdj1. I have a high degree of confidence that the information there is accurate. Call me a cynic, but I'm very skeptical about the KSRR/KQMB story. There's just too much about it that doesn't make sense, and too much missing information. I'll believe it when I hear the stations are back on the air, or when I read about it at one of the radio trade sites.

Healthy skepticism is usually a good thing and I think it is in this case. I do have a little more information than you do (though not much) and I think this is on the level. Also we should note that no promise was made. The post only says "hopeful." We've all seen plans go sideways. Time will tell.

I hope it is on the level, because I prefer stations that have a local flavor like KSRR and KQMB; as opposed to the same corporate crap you hear on radio stations from coast to coast. And when I could pick up KSRR in Ogden, I liked the music I heard.

Has anyone in Provo or points south actually heard KQMB or KSRR on the air recently? I'm out of listening range of both stations, and the FCC AM/FM query is down at the moment.
