Broadway applied for an STA for KOVO to operate at variance due to the construction of KWLO, so something is happening there. That would make sense since as you said the expiration of the construction permit was yesterday (3/23) so they should have it constructed by now or it theoretically goes bye-bye.

Thanks for the info, CA--I didn't think to check KOVO's FCC records for any recent filings. I'm hearing a very weak signal on 1580 at my location in NE Ogden, but I suspect it's the TIS station for the city of West Point and not KWLO. Considering that KWLO is near the top end of the AM band and I'm nearly 90 miles from Springville, the West Point TIS station is probably what I'm hearing. Unfortunately, the signal on 1580 is too weak for me to catch a positive ID.

That ruling had zero chance of being accepted and really had nothing to do with KWLO. RAMS knew how much time they had and I'm sure budgeted accordingly.

Pardon me if this is OT, but why did the Minnesota station pursue obtaining the CP in the first place? They must have known that they would have to have a local office.

KWLO 1580

I'm hearing a Salt Lake NOAA weather radio re-broadcast on 1580 right now, but I'm not sure if it's KWLO testing or the TIS station in West Point. The signal seems too strong for a 10 watt TIS, so I'll have to listen for a TOH ID and see if it's KWLO.

From Davis County I'm getting the same thing. The 1580 signal seems roughly the same strength as KOVO so that being KWLO seems reasonable.

Hi guys...just to settle an argument on one of my DX lists....IS KWLO on ? Got a person or two telling me their license was granted on Friday so they are on. I am pretty sure if they were on, one of you would have posted it here. However I figured I would have one of you check before I answer them. I wish I had thought about it when I passed through SLC yesterday on the way home from Wendover.

Here in Murray, with a good radio, I hear nothing on 1580.

Well guys it's official. Terry I don't know why you didn't hear them but I did. Right here in Evanston. Pretty damn clear too....maybe the late afternoon conditions helped. From a Tommy Overstreet song, to Donna Fargo, to a liner in a big deep voice "K-W-L-O Springville-Provo. Your home for classic country" So yep, they're on and it's classic country. Maybe KSOP doesn't get down there very well? So they're trying to get some classic country listeners down there? Hmmmm...anyways there you go guys. They're on.

KWLO 1580

Last time I listened to 1580, KWLO was still testing with a re-broadcast of NOAA weather radio, so I'll have to check again tomorrow during the day. I doubt I could hear KWLO at night in Ogden with all the skywave interference from other stations.
The station is definitely showing as fully licensed now instead of just showing as a construction permit. Apparently there were some problems with the measurements on KWLO's Form 302-AM when it was originally submitted, which necessitated a revised one being sent to the FCC. It will be interesting to see how the classic country format does. Anyone know how far south KSOP-AM can be heard?

I merged Michael's new thread with the existing one just to keep things all in the same place. No biggie.
Talking daytime: KSOP(AM) should have a solid signal basically from Provo to Ogden. KWLO is basically from Sandy to the southern Utah County line. KWLO has 1kw of day power while KSOP(AM) has 5kw. South of Provo KWLO probably has a signal advantage. Programming is an entirely different question of course.
It does make sense that someone would try to challenge KSOP(AM) in the CC format. I'm not sure this was the best way to do it, but you work with what you've got.
