A quick background recap first; Sinclair currently owns KUTV-2 and KJZZ-14. Sinclair is buying the Tribune stations which include KSTU-13. On Wednesday a bunch of the to-be-acquired Tribune stations (including KSTU) were placed in a trust to make sure to avoid regulatory scrutiny. On Thursday Variety reported that Fox is close to acquiring some of those stations, including KSTU. Does this sound somewhat familiar? It should to those with long memories. Fox has owned KSTU before. In my opinion the station has kept pretty much the same Fox sensibilities even after Fox no longer owned it, so this probably isn't too big a deal as far as local on-air programming goes. (The national Fox programming is a completely different matter with the pending sale of the Fox studios to Disney, so we can talk about that separately if anyone wants to.) I would guess it's a relief to those who work there since it removes the uncertainty of who will be their boss once all of this gets approved.
