This is about KUTB Ch 18 (and its sister stations around the state and the country) which, even though I'm not that far from the transmitter a bit north of Farnsworth, I can only get once in a blue moon when the planets are properly aligned and the gods are smiling on me.
The stations have apparently been sold to someone called The Edge Spectrum, which sounds like a spectrum speculating company. The application isn't showing in the FCC database yet so that's all I have.

Is this the same as KUTA?

They aren't co-owned. I don't think they are related.

I just read an article on All Access about the FCC opening up a new 600 MHz band via spectrum auction. I wonder if that has anything to do with a spectrum speculating company purchasing KUTB?

As I understand it, low power stations were not eligible for the reverse auction. This stuff has been percolating for some time and the auction already happened. Apparently no stations in Utah actually participated. Almost half of the stations remaining on the air will be moving to new RF channels though.
