Since the previous thread on this subject is now locked, I'm posting an update with a new thread. Per KLO's Facebook page and kloradio.com, Mills Crenshaw is no longer with KLO. The weekday lineup has once again been shuffled, with the Larry Elder show replacing Crenshaw from 4-7 PM and Old Time Radio programs from 10 PM-1 AM weekdays in addition to 6 PM-12 AM on Saturdays and 7 PM-12 AM Sundays. The rest of KLO's program schedule remains the same. So much for live local talk on 1430 AM!

At some level it makes sense. KLO's ratings haven't been anything to talk about for a long time and the local talk didn't help. Producing your own local show has to be more expensive than just picking up something off the satellite. We should be thankful that they didn't add more paid programming nonsense.

KLO still has a couple of local call-in shows on Saturday mornings, but that's about it for live and local since Mills got the boot. The rumors on the internet say KLO fired him with no advance notice, but you know how reliable most of the online gossip is. Ironically, KLO is still airing Crenshaw's commercials for a law firm and Shave Secret, but they will probably disappear once the ad contract is done. And amen to the paid programming crap: with a 7 hour block from 6 AM-1 PM on KLO Sundays, that's more than enough to cause most listeners to tune out. I suspect that the alleged firing of Mills and the block of paid programming on Sundays are financially based decisions due to KLO's meager market share. I wish the station would try something different like oldies or a nostalgia format, but for the time being it looks like they're sticking with the Salem Radio Network's conservative talk programs.

Not really a schedule change for KLO per se, but the station will once again be carrying the Weber State Wildcats football games live starting September 1st. First game will be Weber State vs. the Utah State Aggies at 6 PM, and the full schedule can be found here: www.kloradio.com/2016/08/04/weber-state-football/

A few comments on the EIN News page David linked to earlier.
The Dean of Talk Radio? I don't think so. A quote labelled just as "fact"? No, that's an opinion. And worst of all, the frame at the bottom that's supposed to link to what he's promoting has a typo and leads nowhere!

"The Dean of Talk Radio" is just self-promoting marketing hype which demonstrates the size of Crenshaw's ego. The promos for his show on KLO used that slogan as well, and it may have something to do with KLO giving him the boot. The "fact" on his page states "hard hitting political talk and fascinating discussions since 1965", although the page may have been altered since you last viewed it. As for the link, if you're referring to TalkRadio1.US, the best way to access it is to copy and paste the the text that's just above the phone number. It will be interesting to see how long Mills' latest endeavor lasts. Some of the other KTKK hosts are participating as well, so that may help balance out the podcast content and keep it from being too one-sided . . . maybe! I'm not shedding any tears over his departure from KLO, as it has resulted in more vintage radio programs being aired during the week from 10 PM-1 AM.

Crenshaw was dismissed by KLO the first week of July, so I think it's odd that they're still running his commercials for The Advocates law firm. Isn't it standard broadcasting industry practice to remove commercials made by a terminated employee within X number of days or weeks? There must be a live human working for KLO that could re-record the spot.

I think you're making a connection that isn't necessarily there. Radio personalities do independent voiceover work all the time. Just because Crenshaw did a spot and it airs on KLO doesn't mean KLO made the spot. They might have as part of the sale of the air time, but we don't know that for sure. For example, Doug Wright does spots for Burt Brothers and they've aired on numerous non-Bonneville stations. All of that is irrelevant, but should be kept in mind. Since presumably The Advocates paid for the production, why would they pay more money to redo it when there's no compelling reason to do so? I'm not aware of any scandal or any negative publicity that Crenshaw has received. He's just no longer on the air there. If he's been accused of something bad, that would be one thing. Just no longer being on the station (or even being fired because he wasn't bringing in ratings) isn't any reflection on his credibility as a spokesdroid that I can think of.
