Now playing unfamiliar music. Actual liner on 107.9: "One hundred in a row with no commercials". Too weird for me.
I notice that 103.9 is on air with no audio.

This seems like the takeover of 107.9 by PCW, though if it is it's a soft one. One of the liners says the website is 1079themountain.org, but that's a parking page as of 11:30PM on Sunday. I heard Coldplay "Clocks" and Fun "We Are Young", which seems awfully close to what Mix runs. I would think they'd have some sort of non-compete agreement.
The liner Terry mentioned I agree is weird. Even assuming the average song is 5 minutes (which is a stretch), that's not even 8 1/2 hours. Of course they shouldn't be running ANY commercials since they converted the station to noncommercial on April 1.

Hello folks. The speculation of the format on 107.9 is over. 107.9 is going by the mountain. Mike Summers is doing the voiceovers for 107.9 the mountain. I think that this is going to be a great station once a gets off the ground. In fact, some of the voiceovers are very catchy. For example, Mike summer says something to the effect of, if you want to new air go to 107.9 the top of the FM dial. I'm paraphrasing of course, but it says something like that. It is also great to hear Mike Summers is a voice back on 107.9. Or, I should say it's great to hear Mike Summers a voice on Salt Lake radio. I think we all need to call community wireless later today and thank them for taking a chance on Mike Summers. This will be great.

The three threads on 107.9 have been combined into this thread to make things easier to follow.

I'm guessing the Mike Summers that is doing the voice-overs for the new 107.9 is the same one who used to be on KJQ and X96; is that correct?

That would explain why what I heard on 107.9 this afternoon sounded A LOT like vintage KJQ. I heard some songs I haven't heard since I graduated from Weber State in the early 1990's. As long as they keep playing the same kind of music, I'm hooked!

The website (1079themountain.org) is live now. There isn't much, but there is a form to submit feedback and a link to their Facebook page. Still no sign of the stream the liners talked about. If you'd like to follow Lumpy's suggestion and send them feedback, this seems like a good plan.

Sure wish I could hear it. The main on humpy is not on. At least not as of yesterday. Guess they are still working on that. The humpy mains are fed via stl from Lewis Peak...which is right there in eyeshot of park city. So it should be pretty easy. Then again maybe the station isn't being run out of Park City. Studios may be down there somewhere in the valley. Could be an engineering thing too...and the weather hasn't been exactly perfect for getting up to places like Lewis. Will keep checking.

Thanks for that report Michael. I'd appreciate it if you could keep us up to date. If the main is off the boosters are supposed to be off too. There's nothing on file indicating any of the boosters are licensed auxes. Any idea what the status of the main was when Mix was on 107.9?

It was on. It came on a few weeks after the boosters came on. It had been on since and was on all through the "reset your preset" loops. I had been checking it almost daily but it went off right about the time Lumpy posted that the new format had debuted. Kinda amazed me since when mix moved to 107.9 it was winter and Humpy is not really accessible in winter and considering they had to haul a transmitter up to Humpy...must have hauled it up there by helicopter or possibly a snow cat. From what I have been told the signals all go from SLC to Lewis Peak by digital circuit and then they are STL'd by microwave from there to Humpy. Seems like PCW would just have to set up a digital circuit to feed Lewis. They obviously already have a digital circuit going because I believe that's how the boosters are fed and also how they are and have been getting audio down to SLC for KCPW. Will keep you posted.

Docket 05-243 that moves 107.9 to Humpy was approved back in 2008, so they knew a transmitter would be needed. They could have brought one up there any time in the many years it took to actually implement it. I wonder if anyone thought it would take as long as it did.

"The Mountain" is already dead. From facebook: It's with a heavy heart that I have to let our listeners and supporters know we won't be moving forward with The Mountain on 1079 FM. At a critical juncture in the process, we are unable to come to an agreement with the licensee of KUMT - Community Wireless of Park City. They have decided to move forward with their own programming and we will be exploring options for The Mountain as well.
I can't thank all of you enough for all your support. In just 10 days on the air, we clearly ruffled some feathers in Utah media. I've got some great stories to share about these past few months but there will be a time and place for that. For now, I just wanted to say thanks.

Thanks much for the info. I wondered why 107.9 had been broadcasting nothing but "dead air theatre" for the past couple days. I'm sad to see The Mountain disappear so soon, as I was really enjoying the music of my college days.
