I posted this over on the radio side, but figured I'd better post it here too, in case we've got some TV folks that don't venture to the radio side.
I believe I've mentioned here before that I am a freelance writer/journalist, and I've written a few stories on local radio for the Tooele Transcript Bulletin that you might find interesting:
KDYL: KSL’s Doug Wright Reflects On His Days At Tooele’s Old Radio Station
Mysterious black towers bear testament to abandoned tramway that once held life and death in the balance
I've got the radio/TV tech bug again and am looking to write one or more upcoming stories on interesting radio-related topics. After a huge setback on a planned story yesterday, I thought I'd come here for ideas.
Background on the afore-mentioned setback: I've been researching for a new story about KSL's Farnsworth Peak complex slated for later this month, but I ran into a brick wall yesterday when somebody in the upper echelons at KSL nixed our trip to the complex for "security reasons." This is quite disappointing, to say the least-- especially given the trust and extraordinary access KSL has given me in the past. Several years ago KSL's chief engineer provided me with reams of documentation on the facility as part of the tram story linked to above; this story is years in the making. In fact I may have enough information to re-work the story from a historical angle and run it without KSL's input.
That aside, do any of you have an interesting radio or TV history or story you'd like to see told in print? Are there any interesting histories about other local facilities that I may have overlooked in my zeal to focus on Utah's largest media outlet? Do you have any leads on any other KSL-related story? Please feel free to respond here or send me a PM.
