Anyone on the board know why KUER (90.1) is broadcasting in mono again? This seems to be an ongoing issue with the station, as it was broadcasting in mono for a long stretch about two or three years ago, then went back to stereo. Now the station's signal is mono again, so I'm just curious as to what's going on.

There was an ongoing discussion of a station (I forget which one now) many years ago where someone who had knowledge of the situation said that the stereo/mono button on some piece of equipment was easy to bump into and switch to mono and it happened somewhat often. That could be the case here, but I don't have any direct information. Right now, it's back in stereo. It wasn't on either Monday or Tuesday when I noticed the same thing. If someone from The U is reading the board, hi there and thanks.

It has to be in the audio processor or the exciter whichever it is, it requires more than just a switch compared to the Old Optimods..

I looked up the station engineer on the KUER website when this happened a couple years ago and emailed him to ask about it. I think he said they had to broadcast the standard signal in mono to avoid causing problems with the HD feed.
When this happened again recently I posted on audiokarma.org to ask about it. There were quite a few replies, but none of them really useful.
I don't know why the standard and HD feeds would even be related. The HD feed has stayed stereo, and I have an HD tuner, but it does not sound very good. I wish they would fix this. I think I will try to contact the engineer again.

A key word in there might be "feed". An engineer using the word feed I would guess means the STL, but maybe not. I do remember a discussion on the air on some station several years ago talking about an issue with the transmitter mask and how it wasn't working properly and the analog and digital signals were having problems. I don't remember if it was KUER, but it might have been.
