Now that KOSY is gone...who's gonna capitalize on all the Christmas Music fans clamoring to hear Bing Crosby?

KSFI has been the leader for a long time and I don't see that changing.

Since there isn't a voting button for "Other", I'll predict that KLGN 1390 AM will flip to Christmas music this Monday (Nov. 4th). They're already playing Xmas commercials for local businesses, so I'm sure they'll flip sometime this week. Of course, I know that old geezers like me are the only ones who still listen to music on AM radio, but that's beside the point.

KLGN flipped this morning . . . KSFI, KBEE, and KBZN are still airing their regular formats.

I heard a promo that said KBEE will flip to all Christmas the evening of Thanksgiving.

This madness has been going on for 12 years. Are women 18-49 sheep?
I know PPM backs up Christmas music success, but still. It's not the post-9/11 upset America anymore.

KSFI first in the metro, but not as early as in the past (as evidenced by the fact that they have not already flipped).

Doesn't count for over the air, but the Christmas Music stream is now up at fm100.com
*Henry* ... don't think that stations are flipping any more due to some kind of post 9-11 stress. I think they are flipping because of PPM success. I know some want to go back to the days when stations would play 2-3-maybe 4 Christmas songs an hour. That might work for some, maybe alot. Frankly for me strictly personally, I'll stay away from the holiday songs until I'm ready. BUT when that time comes, that's all I want to hear, so I'm glad there are some all holiday options available (terrestrial, satellite and streaming) so that when I want holiday tunes I can have them full time.....

I flip America's Country The day after Thanksgiving and go through New Year's Eve.

I think the big problem with flipping this early is that it's very polarizing. Some people want the holiday tunes early, some hate it. (Put me in the hate camp.) The numbers are all that count for the bottom line and that's what the PD's go by.
There's something else to consider though. Take fictional station K-Blah-Blah-Blah that flips November 1st. Maybe they gain a few listeners who want the Jingle Bells early and lose a lot more that don't. That might not matter in the long run, because the listeners that they drive away know that those tunes are there even if they aren't listening right now. As MoS said, when he's ready he's going to seek out an all Christmas station. He knows that K-Blah-Blah-Blah is doing Christmas and might go back there when the time is right. That's a long term strategy rather than a short term one. If you establish yourself as a station to hear that, you might end up with lower ratings in the November book, but higher that you otherwise would have had in the December and Holiday books.

I've always thought that they should simply start playing a few Christmas songs and then gradually add more until they are 100% Christmas music.

Almost all stations used to do that Wally. Probably some still do, but they are outnumbered.
