I am trying to find common maritime frequency used by fishing boats, and other smaller see vassals. The subject came up at work the other day. What radio frequency does the ships from the TV show " THE DEADLIEST CATCH" use. I do think it is SSB from what I have heard from the show. If any one can provide information, or a actual frequency that would be great. Thank you, Hitech - Richfield.

You might want to do a Google Search. I just looked around a bit, ...I have some good sites listed on my other computer, so I'll check it later. They probably are using HF frequencies out there in the ocean....VHF channels get used near the coastline. IIRC, you could look around 6, 8, and 12 MHz. You'll need a really good antenna, and a quiet environment.

Would the same range of frequencies be used on an inland body of water such as the Great Salt Lake or Utah Lake as would be on the ocean?

I think that the VHF band is used for most inland waterways, as well as anything that is line-of-sight to the coast. Once you get out a ways, you're pretty much stuck with HF or satellite. Those bands I mentioned, IIRC, are used a lot for ships at sea, although a lot of "personal"-style comms are done via satellite (privacy issues). Plenty of marine weather forecasts on HF though.
