The Tribune is reporting that KLO is buying rimshot 103.1 (currently Jack FM) and will start simulcasting July 16. www.sltrib.com/sltrib/money/54403949-79/broadcasting-lake-salt-capital.html.csp(Note to The Trib. The company is spelled Capitol, and they also own KBZN in town.) Jack was fairly heavily 80's for a long time, but that role has been shifted to Rewind 100.7 that Simmons is keeping. Based on the ratings I would guess not too many people will miss Jack. With two weeks before the switch do you think they'll start advertising 100.7 on 103.1?

This is great news for me! I love to listen to Bill Bennett in the early morning but the KLO 1430 nighttime signal is really poor here. This will be great. I'll be able to hear the other nighttime programs clearly now too for the first time.
This news made my day. Can't wait. Thank you KLO.

(Note to The Trib. The company is spelled Capitol, and they also own KBZN in town.) I got a reply back about that. Apparently the company really is Capital, or at least that's what they spelled in their press release and confirmed to the Trib after I brought it to the paper's attention. They did revise the piece to note KBZN 97.9 ownership though. I find it entertaining that KLO/Capital decided to call 103.1 "The" Jack, not just "Jack FM."

If that's the correct spelling then they should fix their building and their FCC filings. www.kloradio.com/About-Us/3209781transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?list=0&facid=8690Maybe there's a shadow corporation. Maybe it's really run by the Men in Black?! Or maybe some people are just confused. :)

So is anything changing as far as the boosters? Jack has been failing for years in the ratings, but I'm not sure about this one...

So is anything changing as far as the boosters? Jack has been failing for years in the ratings, but I'm not sure about this one... The only major difference in the boosters among the Humpy rimshots is that KDUT 102.3 is still at the tower behind the Harmons in Roy to cover the Ogden area. Everyone else is north of town near Willard. The coverage is pretty much the same. It seems like Jack has been running on autopilot for years. I certainly haven't seen any advertising for it, but I haven't seen much for any other stations either.

"Jack FM" is apparently shifting their music, trying to get listeners attention. Station liners are emphasizing 'reset your preset to 100.7.' I guess Simmons is able to do that until KLO Broadcasting / Capit(o)al Broadcasting takes over. Anyone else confirm this? I heard it from an in-market friend.

SF, there are liner I heard said that Jack music has been added to Rewind 100.7 and to do the 'reset your preset' thing. It's not the bulk of the liners. Most of them are still the same Howard Cogan stuff Jack is known for. It's also not really news. Both are basically 80's stations. The one I heard was in the middle of a normal stopset, so I suspect that Simmons is buying the time. Remember that the station is supposed to be run independently since it's in a trust.
If you go back to the original owner you'll find George S Flinn Jr, back when the COL was Huntsville and the callsign was KPEB. Flinn then tried to sell the station to Millcreek (aka Buzil & Devine). That application was dismissed and the contract for the station was sold to Simmons. I'm not sure where the $4.4 million came from, because it looks to me like it was $1.625 million. (https://licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS_Attachment/getattachment.jsp?appn=100980868&qnum=5110©num=1&exhcnum=1) That is a lot more in line with the $1.5 million for the current sale. When KKAT-FM was sold a couple of years ago it went in the $5.75 million range and that's a much better signal.
